Malik Bynum

Malik Bynum joined CBHDA in January 2025, serving as our Legislative Advocate. He grew up in several cities in the Bay Area, then moved to Sacramento where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Sacramento State University.
He then began his public policy career analyzing K-12 education legislation for the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE), which laid the groundwork for the last 6 years where he has built a working background in organized labor on behalf of over 180,000 in-home supportive services (IHSS) providers and family childcare providers in California.
Most recently as the Assistant Legislative Director of United Domestic Workers/AFSCME Local 3930 (UDW), Malik oversaw the development of the union’s legislative and budget advocacy plan to improve the livelihoods of low-income workers who are caring for our state's most vulnerable populations, those who are aging and/or have intellectual/developmental disabilities and California's youngest learners receiving subsidized quality early care and education.
